We are thrilled to announce that two works by Jennifer Greenburg have recently been acquired by MOCA Tucson. Both prints are from the Artist's ongoing series Revising History. For those less familiar with Greenburg's work, Revising History is a study on vernacular photography and an investigation into the cultural tropes they reinforce. To create the images the Artist employs multidisciplinary art practices where she dresses like and photographs herself "playing 'them,'" and then inserts herself into the place of the figure in a found midcentury negative. This image-intervention asks what is encoded in the images we take and save. The work has been called “arguably more nuanced than Cindy Sherman,” and has been exhibited and written about nationally and internationally.

The two pieces acquired by MOCA Tucson, titled The insurance agent told me to have my husband or my father call him. 2017 (left) and I've never been good at handling unwarranted attention. 2016 (right), are particularly interesting. They exemplify how recent works in the series are far darker and more loaded than earlier ones. They seem to reveal a pivot-point in the series. They no longer rely on titles to undermine a moment, rather more overtly reveal a sense of dis-enchantment with the otherwise idealized epoch.
