Rashod Taylor’s Little Black Boy was selected for inclusion in Reflecting Voices , an exhibition at the Colorado Photographic Arts Center. This 3-person show was curated by Samantha Johnston, CPAC Executive Director & Curator. The Exhibition is presented as part of the Month of Photography (MoP) Denver Festival, a biennial event that celebrates the art of photography with exhibitions and related programming through the region. In a curatorial statement, Johnston describes the Reflecting Voices exhibition as part of an ongoing effort by CPAC to “amplify the voices of underrepresented artists .”
In Reflecting Voices diverse expressions of black identity are explored through the work of Alanna Airitam, Narkita Gold, and Rashod Taylor. “Alanna’s tribute to Black culture as realized through characteristics of Dutch portraiture and the Harlem Renaissance; Narkita’s revealing portraits of Denver’s Black community seen through bright, colorful backgrounds; Rashod’s testimony of the Black American experience documented through an intimate study of family. It is an honor to spotlight these artists, who each reflect on identity, race, and legacy in their own way through the art of portraiture. With this exhibition we seek to provide the space to reflect, engage in conversation, and respond to our current moment.”
Work from Rashod Taylor’s Little Black Boy was included in our recent You and Yours exhibition (recommended by Matt Eich). The work continues to gain recognition and praise. It is an intimate and touching reflection on the world of a black son and father navigating contemporary America in a moment our country’s founding promise, “all are created equal” is yet unfulfilled.
