Tatiana Parcero | MUSAC Collection Case Study
Congratulations to Tatiana Parcero; her work is now on view at MUSAC (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León), Spain. This is the third Case Study of Parcero’s work drawn from the Museum’s permeant collection. It gives greater attention, context and space to works from three bodies of work by the mid-career Latin American artist: Cartografía Interior, Actos de Fé and Re-Invento. Curatorial collaboration between by Raquel Álvarez, Pablo Bernabé and Koré Escobar precipitated in this splendid exhibition of Tatiana Parcero’s work.
Tatiana Parcero discusses her work, especially through these periods and projects as a way “to redefine the interior of the body; to explore the interior space from outside as a process of self-discovery and, at the same time, have an opportunity to show what is not seen at a glance. These images are a way of constituting visual images and exploring the body like a map; of showing the interior of the body and what is not visible at first sight.” The body she is talking about is none other than her own, and so these works could be understood as true self-portraits—self-portraits of the physical and evident, but also of the psychological and ideological.”
The fact that the works here incorporate such imagery as pre-Columbian engravings, codices, celestial zodiac maps and the body set the stage for continued study- these are among the ways humans have conceived and attempted to understand the world and existence. This is where the work begins, not ends. Parcero’s work is meditative and expansive. Having evolved the self as a singular unit, so too has she engaged the continuum, uniting the whole of many through the symbolic singular one.
