Turounet's Estamos Buscando A Exhibits in NYC & Phoenix
Also Noticed by Humble Arts Foundation
Paul Turounet's Estamos Buscando A (We Are Looking For) artist's book hasn't left our headlines or the attention of collectors, curators, and foundations in the photographic field since it released. It was shortlisted and runner-up for the 2016 Paris Photo - Aperture Foundation First PhotoBook Award, exhibited in Paris, and is now on view at Aperture Gallery in New York. It will continue to travel to other venues in relation to this award. It has also been named by the Humble Arts Foundation to a list of the 17 Best Socially Concerned Photo books of 2016, and is exhibiting at the Phoenix Art Museum.
The self-published book is the third in a series of books by the artist that seeks to explore the migrant experience across the US|MX border. The book references real safety guides given to migrants by humanitarian groups who protect human rights of migrants through activities like search and rescue, advocacy, legal advice, and survival recommendations. The book effectively puts us in the shoes of migrants through intimate portraits, landscape photographs, illustrations, maps, advisories and personal narratives.
