We were honored to be asked to donate a work to the Museum of Contemporary Photography's Benefit Auction. Based in Chicago, MoCP requested work by Matt Eich; we offered a piece from the Carry Me Ohio series, Skidmark, Chauncey, Ohio 2006. We are happy to report the work sold above retail. We are proud of the support this piece gave to the Museum and see it as a good indicator for the work in general.
Carry Me Ohio (2006-2016) is a decade-long depiction of a selection of small towns in Ohio, intended to to summarize a greater rural American experience. These areas are struggling to rebuild after the collapse of many jobs in coal and industry have closed. Eich’s images—while not glamorizing rural life or its challenges with poverty--focus on the interconnectedness of community and family histories.
