Luis González Palma’s El Goce de lo no dicho | The pleasure of what is not said, 2004 is a mysterious and alluring work. It belongs to the artist's Jerarquías de Intimidad, El Encuentro | Hierarchies of Intimacy, The Encounter series from 2004. The photographic images is rendered in kodalith and set over red-paper covered in silver leaf embedded in resin.
The luminosity of this work is matched by its imperfections intended and unintended. This is one of a few works in the series executed in silver leaf. Most used gold. Moody and conflicted, this particular copy is an anomaly to the rest of the edition. At the moment of production, the artist placed the transparent kodalith in reverse, with the staircase on the left rather than the right. It was encased. While it remains part of the regular edition, it is unique.
González Palma invented a method of production using red paper, metal leaf, kodalith, and resin. Like his handprinted silver prints and collage before, the artist invented this new method of production to create a language all its own. The works are celebrated for their luminous beauty- light enters through them- and material symbolism. They proved extremely fragile and are now rare. Due to difficulty of execution and transport, the artist has discontinued producing work in this manner. Those that remain are rare and glorious.
